MISSION TRIP 2024
SERVING LOCAL COMMUNITY

LARGO, FL

All current 6th-11th grade (2023-2024 school year) students are invited to an unforgettable experience serving the surrounding communities right in our backyard. This year, Anona Youth will be partnering with local organizations to help OUR community right at home! Our hope is to show the impact that our students can make right here at home with the local organizations we partner with year-round. We’re providing the opportunity to put your students’ faith into action and return home with lifelong memories and a renewed excitement for Jesus Christ. We’ll still have all the elements that an “away” mission trip includes, with the benefits of impacting our own families in the community!

TEEn VALLEY RANCH (TVR) CAMP

All current 6th-12th grade students (2023-2024 school year) are invited to an unforgettable experience at Teen Valley Ranch (TVR) Camp.

We’re so excited to be trying something new this summer! This year we are partnering with St. Paul UMC’s Youth Group to travel up to Plumtree, North Carolina for a camp experience in the mountains at Teen Valley Ranch Camp, or TVR.

TVR hopes that the summer experience is unforgettable fun; but more than that, they desire to make a great impact on campers’ lives and inspire them to live life with Jesus. They are a ministry full of trained staff who love to share their skills, talents and faith to make a difference in the lives of students. TVR offers distinct programs for middle and high school students. They are in sessions together, but have distinct group games and cabin times. Click on these links to learn more about activities and sample schedule.

Confirmation 2024

Confirmation is a great way for students 7th grade or older to learn about what we believe, why we believe it, and how to apply it to our daily lives. We will discuss United Methodist theology along with other basic Christian beliefs to begin to lay the foundation for students to develop a personal faith of their own.

Once registered, additional information and details will be emailed out so that you are well informed for each event scheduled. All students 7-12th grade are welcome to participate. The cost is $70 for the class, which includes the retreat and class supplies. We believe in the importance of Confirmation so we have scholarship assistance available for any reason to students interested. 

CONFIRMATION 2024 SCHEDULE**

Sun, Feb 4th 9:00-10:30am - Confirmation Kickoff Event- Chapel Conference Room (Parents and Students)

~ Parents/ guardians and students are invited for coffee, information, and a meet and greet with leaders to kick off the journey together.

Sun, Feb 11th 9:00am-12:30pm - Jewish Temple Visit  (parents 9:00-9:25am)

~ We’ll learn about our Jewish heritage, then travel to Temple BiNai Isreal to meet their Rabbi and hear about our Jewish roots and how it has influenced our Christian faith. 

Sun, Feb 18th 9:00am-10:30am - Lesson at the Church (parents 9:00-9:25am)

~ We’ll continue the story of God’s people into the birth of Jesus and learn about how the church came to be. 

Sun, Feb 25th 9:00am-12:15pm - Lesson at Church + Traditional Service Visit (parents 9:00-9:25am)

~We’ll hear from one of our own Anona UMC Pastors as they give us insight into the unique aspects of the Methodist denomination and what sets this tradition apart from others. Then, we’ll worship together at our own 11am Traditional Service in the sanctuary!

~ This is the pinnacle of the Confirmation Experience! We will dive into the depths of what we believe (given our history from above), why we believe it, and why it matters in a variety of ways.

Sun, Mar 17th 9:00am-10:30am - Lesson at Church (no field trip) (parents 9:00-9:25am)

~We’ll learn more about how we can live out our faith every single day through our Anona slogan—Worship, Grow, Serve, Live.

Fri, Mar 22nd 6:30-8pm - Beach Night** (Parents and Students)

~ Everyone (whole church, youth group, families, students) is invited to the beach as we baptize students who have decided to take that step in their faith as part of Confirmation. 

~ Plus, we’ll remember our baptisms for everyone who has already been baptized younger or as a baby AND celebrate steps taken in faith by the group.

Sun, Mar 24th - Confirmation Sunday** (Parents and Students)

~ We’ll be celebrating our Confirmation Class at all of the Sunday worship services in the morning AND evening. 

**Students cannot miss more than two Confirmation Classes. If classes are missed, it is the student/parent’s responsibility to schedule a makeup class with the Youth Director. Retreat, Beach Night & Confirmation Sunday is required for completion of Confirmation!

We’re inviting all 5th-graders to join us this spring for our next step in the Somewhere in the Middle journey! This is the time when our 5th grade students get to start the transition from kids ministry to youth ministry. This next season, they will get to see what youth group is all about and connect with other peers. We’ll enjoy games, dinner, worship, talk time, small groups and more.

MINI MISSIONS
HOPE VILLAGES OF AMERICA

We’d love for your student to join us for our second Mini Missions event to Hope Villages of America food bank in Clearwater for their HUNGER 101!

HUNGER 101 is a role-playing, interactive game that brings awareness to food insecurity and hunger in Tampa Bay. Each participant is assigned a different scenario and then directed to purchase or obtain food and meet the 2000 calories per day goal. Afterward, the group will gather together to discuss the challenges faced while trying to achieve their task, given their assigned scenario. Finally, we'll review the differences between food insecurity and hunger, as well as helping serve in the food pantry!

SOUTH FLORIDA

All 7th-12th grade students (2023-2024 school year) are invited to an unforgettable experience serving the South Florida area. This year, Anona Youth will be partnering with TEAMeffort Youth Missions! TEAMeffort provides youth group mission trips filled with opportunities to put your students’ faith into action and return home with lifelong memories and a renewed excitement for Jesus Christ.

Hurricane Ian brought devastation throughout the South Florida coast. Our group will minister to these communities in South Florida, working to repair homes to livable conditions. We are excited to see what God is going to do through your students showing the love of Christ to families who live there.

We will have VBS style learning, fun, games, crafts and activities for Kids, a Middle and High School level study for our Youth, and a time of great discussion and study for Adults. There will be something for everyone!

***We are so excited to be offering our Parent Track for Confirmation Class again this year! In the Parent Track, you’ll get to learn about each of the topics your students are learning about in Confirmation, but at an adult level. Our hope is that this allows you an opportunity to grow in your faith, grow in community with other parents, and carry on these conversations with your student at home after class. The Parent Track will run during your student's class time, about an hour.
