The Power of the Sabbath

There is the creation story.  Then, there is the recreation story.  Nowhere is it put more simply than in Revelation 21 where the Lord on the Throne says “Watch what I am doing.  I make everything novel and refreshed”.  How does God do that?  Recreation.  To re-create.  To create it again, novel and refreshed.  We can see this in all the Old Testament in the number 7.  Seen as the perfect number, the complete and finished number, Jesus rose after 7 days on the first (eighth) day, seeing the first of a new thing.  Let’s explore recreation, sabbath, and the ratio of new life.

New Year, Same You!

Scripture: 2 Kings 23: 1-3

I love the day AFTER Christmas. That's the time when you see all the ads online and on TV to help you become a new and better you.  Gained 10 pounds of holiday weight? Time to join the Gym for a New You! Spend too much on Christmas gifts? Time to start this financial plan (for a fee). Aching Back? Tired feet? Sleepless nights? Whatever the problem, you can work your way in 2024 to become a NEW and EVEN BETTER YOU! This Sunday will be about none of those things.

This week we will be exploring the concept of covenant. What scripture says about it, what John Wesley often did about it, and what you and I can learn from it. Come and renew the New Year with us in worship.
