Sunday, August 4 - Premeditatio Malorum
Erin Padgett
Premeditatio Malorum or “What’s the Worst That Could Happen”? Greek philosophy blended with the Christian faith early. We see that blend and wonder even in the formation of our current scripture. However, on the above question, scripture and philosophy differ. Stoics in particular were taught to meditate on the worst that could happen. The Scripture on the other hand reassures us of God’s watch, care, and providence over us that is past our understanding. We can trust in God’s care for us in all circumstance. My prayer for you on this Sunday is to “Trust in the Lord with all your Heart and Lean Not on your own understanding”.
Psalm 91:1-16
